The 5th annual Great Eastern Iowa Duck Race, produced by Cedar Rapids Daybreak Rotary, helped raise $32,500 for YouthPort – a joint effort by Tanager Place, Boys & Girls Clubs of Cedar Rapids, and Young Parents Network.
The funds will support efforts at the Polk Alternative Education Center, where all three agencies are working to answer basic care needs of health, nutrition, and safety for families. Funds will support the joint effort at Polk to orchestrate volunteers, highlight resources, coordinate services, share outreach opportunities, and launch neighborhood initiatives.
Daybreak Rotary has played a valuable role in supporting the initiative through volunteer efforts and community collaborations. More than 50 members of Daybreak Rotary have volunteered with Boys and Girls Clubs of Cedar Rapids and Young Parents Network.
In all, the 2013 Great Eastern Iowa Duck Race, held July 20, raised $65,000 for area nonprofits. Funds also supported Jon Cushing Sunshine Fund, Four Oaks, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Over the last five years, more than $330,000 has been raised through proceeds from adopted ducks and the support of generous sponsors– all going toward local youth in the community.
