Day 1: The Use of Expressive Arts in Play Therapy
On the first day of this workshop, you will spend time learning the history of expressive arts and the powerful impact is has in the treatment process. You will learn modalities of expressive arts therapy, including, the use of expressive arts in play therapy, materials needed and how to conduct an expressive arts play therapy session from beginning to end. Participants will walk away with various directive and non-directive expressive arts activities to use in play therapy.
Participants will achieve success in the following learning objectives:
- Identify the history of expressive arts in play therapy.
- Identify 3 different expressive art therapy modalities that can be used in play therapy.
- Demonstrate the use of being present throughout the use of expressive arts in a play therapy session.
- Discuss and demonstrate how to set up the space for an expressive arts experience, how to invite clients to the experience and how to be a witness to the art with clients in play therapy.
- Apply integrating expressive arts into their play therapy theory of choice.
- Describe and apply how to use expressive arts for self-care as a play therapist.
Day 2: The Use of Sand Tray in Play Therapy
On the second day of this workshop, you will spend time learning the history of sand tray play therapy and the powerful impact is has in the treatment process. You will learn everything you need to know about sand tray play therapy, including, the use of sand tray play therapy, materials needed and how to conduct a sand tray play therapy session from beginning to end.
Participants will achieve success in the following learning objectives:
- Describe the history and use of sand tray play therapy.
- Demonstrate how to lead a client through a sand tray play therapy session, including describing the reason for sand tray therapy, explaining the process, and ending a sand tray session.
- Apply the use of being present throughout a sand tray play therapy session.
- Utilize ways to explore and assess client’s narrative/private logic, help the client gain insight and make changes to their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors through the use of sand tray play therapy.
- Develop and practice sand tray play therapy directive trays.
- Demonstrate ways to apply directive sand trays with clients in play therapy.
