Tanager Brings Innovative Treatment to Linn County Youth & Families

Linn County, IA- Tanager, Linn County leader in providing mental health services for youth, is excited to launch their new program, Multisystemic Therapy (MST). For over a year, Tanager has been working with national consultants to complete the approval and implementation process required to bring this innovative service to our community. Tanager’s MST program is the first in Linn County and is only the second operating in the State of Iowa.

MST is an intensive, family and community-based treatment that addresses the core causes of juvenile delinquency and antisocial behaviors in youth ages 12-17.  MST Therapists help youth and their families develop healthier environments with the ultimate goals of improving youth mental health and reducing youth criminal activity, substance use, aggressive/violent behaviors, and academic problems.

Tanager Vice President of Clinical Services, Tonya Hotchkin, LMFT, RPT, CTRP-C shares, “Bringing multisystemic therapy to our community will not only benefit at risk youth, but it will also strengthen families and enhance their overall wellbeing presently and in the future.”

MST is a modality with incredible outcomes that support youth and family functioning and reduce arrests and legal problems and increase pro-social activities and involvement.  MST Services also boasts long-term financial savings to communities due to the interventions and treatment provided. “MST is an investment in our future generations and the health of our whole community” adds Hotchkin.

Tanager hosted stakeholders and members of the community directly connected to youth who may potentially benefit from referral to the Multisystemic Therapy Program kick-off event on May 10th from 9:30am to 11:30 am at Camp Tanager, 1614 W Mount Vernon Road, Mount Vernon IA. Attendees learned more about the program, the impact it will have on the community of Linn County, and hear from guest speaker, and MST Services Program Developer, Sedgrid Lewis, MA.
