#TanagerTalks begins with ‘Angst’ documentary

Tanager Place is offering two special free screenings of the acclaimed IndieFlix documentary “Angst,” which offers a unique perspective of childhood anxiety.

The screenings will take place at the Cedar Rapids Public Library on Monday, Dec. 9, and Tuesday, Dec. 10, and will be followed by community discussion. Participants are not required to attend the discussion.

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health challenge in the U.S., impacting 54 percent of females and 46 percent of males, with age seven being the median age of onset, according to the World Health Organization. While anxiety disorders are highly treatable, only one-third of those suffering receive treatment.

The film documents the struggles some people have with anxiety, but it also reveals their hope for the future.

Recommended for age 10 and up, Tanager Place encourages caregivers and children to attend the screening and subsequent discussion.
