Nan and Wayne Kocourek believe in the power of expressive arts to heal the hearts of children experiencing behavioral health challenges. The Kocoureks support Tanager Place because they believe every child with autism deserves a chance to grow up happy, healthy and with a good support system. Our unique expressive arts programs offer children with difficulty expressing their feelings with the opportunity to “find their voice” through music, art, dance, drama, poetry and role-playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons.
Many children that live life on the autism spectrum have difficulty expressing their emotions. However, we know that sharing how you feel is difficult for many children we serve, not just those living with autism. The creative outlets used in expressive arts therapy help children feel successful in communicating their needs and internal experiences. The Kocoureks continue to sponsor the expressive arts program because they want to keep helping children find their voice, enabling inner joy that lasts a lifetime.
Wayne and Nan are creating a legacy of support for the children and families at Tanager Place, and are encouraging others to have an impact as well. They state, “We are challenging all community members to support organizations devoted to women, children and families. These agencies are vital to empowering those facing difficult situations and your support is critical in helping them continue to fulfill their mission.”
