This workshop is designed for therapists who provide therapy services in the school setting. This workshop will cover a basic understanding of the school structure including history of school-based play therapy, IEP, 504 plans, learning support teams (LST), behavior teams (BST), PBIS and SEBH. This workshop will cover a basic overview of play therapy skills and techniques most commonly used in school settings including hand on practice. Participants will learn ways to engage and provide consultation, education and support with administration, counselors and school support staff. Participants will also learn ways to conceptualize teacher and student relationships to help improve overall wellbeing of the school environment. Participants will also explore techniques for individual family and group settings in the school system.

Participants will achieve success in the following learning objectives:

  1. Discuss history of school based play therapy
  2. Discuss basic understanding of IEP, 504 plan, LST, BST, PBIS and SEBH
  3. Provide overview of play therapy skills and techniques used in school based play therapy
  4. Discuss ways to engage and provide consultation, education and support with school staff
  5. Learn and practice ways to conceptualize teacher and student relationships
  6. Practice play therapy skills and interventions to use in the school setting
  7. Explore play therapy techniques for individual, family, and group settings within the school environment.

Workshop Schedule:

This schedule will be used for both days of the workshop.

  • 9:00-10:30 Instruction Time
  • 10:30-10:45 Break
  • 10:45-12:00 Instruction Time
  • 12:00-1:00 Break(Lunch on your own)
  • 1:00-2:30 Instruction Time
  • 2:30-2:45 Break
  • 2:45-4:00 Instruction Time

Play Therapy Training Hours:

Play therapy credit available to mental health professionals & graduate students in a mental health program. APT Approved Provider #16-457.
